The Cemetery In Winter

Decoration Fog is magical. It is by turns mysterious and mystical. It can be an intimate friend on a warm evening or drain the life from you when it's cold. It obliterates views and enhances them. It degrades detail and it enhances focus. It obsures light, yet it makes light itself visible. If there was no such thing as fog, it would be necessary, for the soul, to invent it.

Walking out to the market I came past the cemetery. The sun was hidden, but the whole valley was gently lit and a misty fog hung over the area. I captured some shots of it before the warming day dispersed the fog.

When I was returning from the store the scene had brightened and the fog had receeded somewhat. I had to stop, though I was cold and just wanted to get home for tea. Then the light changed again slightly and I quickly took more photos.

When I got home I put the tea on and loaded the photos onto my computer. I started playing with them and hours later (the forgotten tea now cold) I had a small collection of derived images, perhaps the best of which is the one above.

Cheers!
