NL Performers
Greeting fellow labourerers! I hope you are enjoying your weekend and your Special Day tomorrow. How on earth did there ever come to be a Labour Day holiday? It sounds like it would be there to honour motherhood, you know, but apparently not. It is celebrated all over the world. Oddly, most everybody else has it in the spring at the beginning of summer fun, we get it at the end like a booby prize.
In any event, we have our own way to honour those who labour long into the night to bring us the spectacles and concerts and theatre events that we all love so much, the relatively new Newfoundland Performers group on Flickr. Here for your lazy weekend delectation are a few of the fine pics from that pool.
If you are one of those who think Allan Doyle isn’t pretty enough already, behold this glorious light bath treatment by HDC* (Heather) who also has some shots of the Ramea Music Festival this year.

Or for gritty intensity how about this great B&W shot of Hey Rosetta! (in church…) by Ruth Skinner? You can almost hear the beat in this one.

Not in the mood for music? How about a little historical re-enactment fun? Look at this beauty by Colin Tobin of this crew of gunners from the Signal Hill Tatoo! Superb effect for this subject. Don’t they look handsome in their uniforms?

Of course, Colin also knows it’s never too late or too early to send in the clowns. Wonderful capture of a juggler’s skill here, caught at the St. John’s Regatta this year.

The dearly departed are also represented, as in this fine capture of Dermot O’Reilly from a St. Patty’s Day show at the Rooms by Chad Worthman

At another end of the performance spectrum, how about this gravity-defying performance captured by Keith Hatcher at a City Hall (knew it was good for something) staircase.

Of course no collection of Newfoundland Performers would be complete without the man of a thousand songs, so here’s a nice shot of the man steppin’ into his work by Ira Crummey
Ron Hynes
Gotta love the intertubes. There’s lots more to enjoy in the pool so wander over and have a look. And, if you’re out and about and get some snaps of Newfoundland performers (any kind, anywhere), why not join the group and add them? The more the merrier I say. There’s hundreds of photos there now, and I expect there will be thousands by this time next year. And it should be quite the cultural record in a few years time, eh?
Yes, b’y.
